As an owner of a Prius I have found some parts that you might want.(see below)

Comments on buying a hybrid car:

Brakes last much longer unless you make lots of sudden stops because the car generates electricity to stop the car and the pads only engage when you step on the breaks hard. (This may not be true for all "hybrids" but it is true for all full hybrids. This feature is called regenerative breaking.)

Many Hybrids in California are not required to get a smog check. This saves you time and money every two years.

In many states hybrids with high gas mileage can ride in the car pool lane with only one occupant.

The resale value is much higher than most other cars and this will only improve as the cost of gas rises and this will be true till there are autos available with very significantly better technology or we stop using fossil fuels.

You are using less gas and polluting less thus contributing less to global warming and saving money.

All of the above more than offset the additional upfront cost and any potential added cost in maintenance or battery replacement. (Since hybrids do not deeply drain the main high voltage battery the battery life is longer than the life of most cars! The 12 volt battery has about the same life as it does in other cars but possibly a little longer as it is not used to start the engine. The high voltage battery does.)
