Coronavirus - What you can do about it!
Iodine - an essential nutrient
From: Thyroid Science - Review Iodine: the Forgotten Weapon Against Influenza Viruses
"After the 1918 Influenza [respiratory, viral] Pandemic which killed an estimated 30 million people, governments financed research on the Pandemic’s causes. Over 25 years, influenza viruses were isolated and methods for killing them with various agents discovered. Iodine was the most effective agent for killing viruses...
Iodine has been known as a universal antiseptic for 150 years and has few side effects except in high doses. Iodine was introduced into our diets with iodized salt by David Marine in 1920. This effectively eliminated goiter, cretinism, and mental retardation caused by inadequate iodine in our diet."
Most people are deficient in iodine.
"The RDA [Recommended Dietary Allowance] for iodine (150mcg[millionth of a gram]/day) is inadequate to supply the body’s need for iodine. When you couple in the increasing exposure to toxic halides [compounds formed with a group of similar elements to iodine] can be bromine, fluoride, and chlorine derivatives, our iodine requirements have markedly increased over the years. My experience has shown that iodine in doses ranging from 6-50mg[thousandth of a gram]/day is adequate to provide iodine for the vast majority of the population."
In the US since the 1970s bromine has been used as a dough conditioner, instead of iodine. Compare that with Australia and New Zealand were since 2009 iodine must be added to bread. Trump could just pick up the phone and convince the bakers to stop using bromine as a dough conditioner and convince them to use iodine again. He could also call the Dairy industry and ask them to use iodine as a disinfectant again. This would increase the levels of iodine in our bread and milk. It could also be done with legislation. This will take time. But it would increase well being of the population and reduce the effects of a future pandemic. In the mean time by educating the public on what nutrients to take we could reduce the pandemic effects. More nutrients are mentioned below.
Governments could also stop adding fluoride to drinking water.
Fluorine is a halogen and has similar properties to iodine. It is believed that cells in your body will absorb halogens as a substitute for iodine and indeed taking iodine can cause discomfort as the body eliminates fluorine, chlorine, and bromine. It is a discomfort that goes away and then you feel better than before. The discomfort of eliminating toxic halogens has caused confusion on what are optimum levels of iodine and what is safe. This could be sorted out by doing a study where you monitored people after taking iodine and examined there excrement to determine when they were eliminating chlorine, flourine and bromine.
People who want fluoride can use toothpaste with fluoride. The whole population should not be forced to drink it!
Once the safe level of iodine is understood it can be added to drinking water instead of chlorine compounds to iliminate pathogens that might be introduced into drinking water distribution systems.
"Since a scientific study in 1998 documented that patients with critical viral infections have rapidly decreasing concentrations of selenium, this has become a focus of research on the trace mineral. Almost half of a person's selenium concentrations may disappear in this manner, which could be life threatening, if the patient's selenium levels are already low."
There is also: zinc, cooper, B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin D and cutting out carbs and sugars. Not nutritional but anti-viral: food grade hydrogen peroxide and ozone therapy.
